If you’re headed to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport in June, watch out for a herd of, er, goats. Slated to provide “sustainable vegetation management grazing services” in a two-year $100,000 contract awarded to a Chicago-based company, they’ll be grazing on weeds and invasive plants on the 120 acres or so weedy grounds there.

The arragement will supposedly save the airport hefty landscape maintenance costs for fuel, labour, herbicides and miscellaneous equipment. Here’s hoping the hooved ones will at least get ear plugs or some sort of sound protection for their sonic welfare.

In honor of its Opportunity rover which has been doing some intensive Mars sightseeing for close to a decade, NASA came up with a infographic chart that showed the distances that have been embarked on by its other vehicles on terrains out there in space. The Opportunity has roved 35.760 kilometers around the rim of Mars’ Endeavour crater, well ahead of the Apollo 17 moon buggy’s 35.744 kilometers. Never mind that the Curiosity rover has managed just less than a kilometer so far since it landed in August; it has at least 14 years in its nuclear batteries to catch up.

Seemed like quite a while back since we mentally hyperventilated over the fact that Wish.co.uk actually organized zombie-fighting adventures in malls, so you can imagine how thrilled we were to find out that they’ve now emerged with even more zombie fun. There’s the Zombie Boot Camp, where you can learn how to shoot zombies down to death-after death; the Zombie Manor House crammed with hordes of zombies; and our favorite: Zombie Battle London featuring, erm, cockney zombies (that’s what they call ‘em).

It looks amazing, but it’s actually terrifying. These methane bubbles trapped in ice are a natural phenomena that occurs in arctic areas. This video of scientists igniting the gas shows just how potent this stuff is – and it’s everywhere in cold, tundra regions of the world. The problem isn’t that it’s stuck under ice; the problem is that global warming and melting of the ice will result in all this methane being released into the atmosphere – and it’s a greenhouse gas that’s 25 times more dangerous for the world than carbon dioxide.

In a recent interview with Vice magazine, photographer Jonathan Hobin stated about his series, ‘Sometimes the kids just get it. Like the 9/11 picture. Even though they are three or four years old, they saw the twin towers and said, ‘I’ll hold the airplane, this is where the plane hit the building’. The mother was stunned. These symbols have worked their way into our subconscious. They are so ingrained in our culture, and they’re instantly recognizable’. Hobin continued by saying,’On the other hand, one of the new images is about acid attacks. With those kids, you’d say, ‘You’re fighting. To hurt that person you pour something that will sting on them’. You talk to them in terms they’re going to understand. And they understand it’s one person hurting another person—that’s the big picture. ‘To start talking about specifics, like bringing in culture, religion… things like that, I think that’s just too big for them to handle. They get the broad strokes. I’m sure it makes for some very interesting conversations on the way home from the photo shoot’. Hobin’s series is a poignent expression of the horrific effects of these tragedies, and re-creating the events with children makes for an even more emotional visual.

Check out the latest piece by Denimu (aka Ian Berry), a life sized installation of a New York news-stand. Made out of layers of cut up blue jeans, the stand displays dozens of magazines, newspapers, coke cans and confectionery. It is currently showing at the Shooting Gallery in San Francisco, and he even added an extra layer of interaction by letting people tag the side of it with a bleach pen to make it more lifelike and realistic.

His installation captures a fading icon of Americana in the most suitable fabric. He has recently added a new part to his site where you can see more detail of his pieces made in denim, although nothing replaces seeing it live.

If you’re wandering the streets of Potts Point, Surry Hills or Darlinghurst, in Sydney, over the next few days, you may happen upon, as I did, a beautiful love letter from the 1940s. Sydney psychologist, artist and hopeful romantic, Alexandra Ehrenberg, has collated and transcribed a series of love letters from the war times of the past in the hope that it will spark a shift in how we address and express love.

With each featuring unique handwriting and authentic vintage stationery, the eight letters have been blown up into posters which are lining the inner East Sydney streets.

Featured on the posters is the hash tag ‘#linesoflove,’ which Ehrenberg has created to encourage viewers to not only re-post the romantic sentiments of the reconditioned letters, but also inspire them to share their own thoughts or dedications to their loved ones on Twitter or Instagram.

‘So many these days seem to be creating art or memes that are cynical, critical or ironic, with messages such as “I love the Sh*t out of you” and alike.

‘While this humour, of course, has its place, I wanted to create an art project in response to the modern day manner in which we address and express love. There is so much lost when love is reduced to such a trivial state and a lot to be learnt from re-visiting how it was done before us.

‘I wanted to gather letters from a time when writing was an art form. With these letters, in particular, being from times of war there is also an added depth to the sentiment’.

Written by soldiers and marines who had no idea if, or when, they would ever see their wives, girlfriends or families again, the letters in the series poignantly and poetically express genuine love.

As a result, ‘lines of love’ is as pure as it is beautiful, thanks to the sincerity of the words and the obvious intimate connection between the sender and the recipient.

Ehrenberg hopes this will encourage readers to do the same. See the map below for where you can stumble upon the ‘lines of love’ yourself.

A guy working as an immigration officer for Stansted Airport Border Force recently quit by handing in a cake that had a resignation note scribbled with what looked like chocolate frosting. The 10” x 12” passion cake (which is a spiced carrot cake with pecans, sultanas and coconut in it) is a fittingly elaborate farewell gift, considering that he’s leaving to set up his own cake business.

The Guardian reported that apparently no orders have rolled in yet for resignation cakes. Hey, only time will tell if this way of saying sweet goodbye to your job will become a trend.

The Opera House and Samsung Electronics Australia recently announced a three-year partnership and collaboration that will transform the Opera House using Samsung’s state-of-the-art technology. The two brands will work together to enhance the Opera House experience through the addition of interactive digital display screens, new mobile technologies, and a multimedia education facility.

To celebrate this innovative collaboration, the Opera House and Samsung Electronics Australia have announced a major competition that will give the public access to the iconic Opera House sails for the first time in history. Competitors can submit images of life in Australia, and on April 23, coinciding with the launch of Samsung’s GALAXY S 4, the Opera House sails will be transformed into the winning portrait. Fun, huh?

Iranian scientist Ali Razeghi claims he can predict the future using a time machine device that creates a print-out with details of a person’s life. Supposedly, the machine predicts details within 5 to 8 years in advance with 98 percent accuracy.
It all started about a year ago when I wrote a post about Fumi Nakamura from New York here on Lost At E Minor. That started a correspondence between Fumi and I. We quickly agreed that it could be great to see if we could do a show together, either in Denmark or in the US. We have very different styles and techniques but we work with some of the same themes in our pieces.

We thought it could be a great challenge to combine our work in a two person show. Fumi showed my work to the gallery she is connected with in New York and they liked the idea. Last Wednesday was the opening of our show in Kunsthalle Galapagos. In between has been an enormous amount of emails, google chats, skype calls and three weeks where I have been in New York preparing the show. Now I am back in Copenhagen, after a successful opening. I love New York but after getting a glimpse of everyday life in the Big Apple I feel pretty privileged to live in Denmark.
