From the outskirts of Omaha, Nebraska, The Faint burst onto the scene with a genre defining album — Sine Sierra — in 1995. Since then they’ve released five more full length recordings (and a couple of remix albums for good measure), including their latest, the beautifully subversive Fasciinatiion, which is out now on Pod through Inertia. We interviewed keyboardist, Jacob Thiele: All I know about Nebraska is the endless farms and ranches. How well does a crunching blend of punk and electro fit into the environment there? ‘Quite nicely I think, mostly by being away from the coasts and ‘real’ cities, it has allowed us to create the kind of music we wanted to hear rather than the kind what might have been in our immediate surroundings. It is also a really cheap place to live, which alleviates some of the financial pressure of being in a band, so we can really put everything we have into the band rather than working all day to pay rent on a rehearsal space’. Latvian-born, UK-based artist Henrijs Preiss cites Russion Icons and Renaissance paintings as primary influences, but his paintings are surprisingly non-figurative. The images seem to draw from a cryptic system of iconography, as if they were panels from the temple walls of a futuristic solar cult. Read more
Herzog and de Meuron, the Swiss architects, have led the way with this re-use of the existing building fabric of CaixaForum in Madrid. Rather than being slavish to the existing openings, the building has been cut away for a contemporary practicality. We think this is an example of heritage not getting in the way of progress. Check out a similar concept of a previous post re-using the city fabric, where we were dreaming of such thing.
Highly unwearable but aesthetically riveting, Nova Dando is making killer waves in the notoriously hard to crack London fashion scene. Perhaps the reason she is so visible is that her collections are consistently outrageous, exceptional and innovative showstoppers. Read more

Illustrator Dallas Clayton has just published an awesome book called, wait for it, An Awesome Book. It’s a ridiculously cute, heart-rending children’s book, encouraging kids and adults alike to never lose our senses of wonder and imagination (psst, it could make a great late gift idea!)
Micah P. Hinson is like every rustic, broken down, and pieced back together country great that’s ever been. Only hipper and slightly less sombre. This track, Diggin’ A Grave, is a button-up hoe down with a classic pop chorus and a jangly banjo accompaniment. Yup, some folk have all the fun.
