I’m a big fan of Alex Turner’s side project, The Last Shadow Puppets. It’s just really good music. When I first got their record, I didn’t know if it was a re-issue or if it was brand new. It doesn’t sound like a jokey pastiche. It sounds sincere.

I’ve loved and admired the work of Canadian Illustrator Isabelle Arsenault as far back as I can remember. I have such a soft spot for her charmingly old fashioned French aesthetic. Read more

Swedish designer Paula Hagerskans has a cool masculine-edge to her female fashion lines. But it’s her attention to detail that really blows my mind. Improv Everywhere strikes again with a spontaneous musical in a Los Angeles mall. Wireless microphones hooked up to the mall’s PA system ensured the feeding masses didn’t slip into Cinnabon-induced comas until after the show was over. Note especially the angry dude in sunglasses at about 2:51 — apparently he thinks nothing can ever top Rent.

The latest project of former punk rock drummer Andreas Asingh from Copenhagen, I literally stumbled across Small through my participation at the By:Larm music conference in Oslo. As one of the many up-and-coming bands in Denmark, their sound is a cross between M83, Remote, and Giorgio Moroder; captivating and adventurous, and full of strong melodies.
