Unfortunately, it’s illegal to actually feed a tree when you die in a lot of places due to health codes requiring coffins or other such “sanitary.” measures. Poetree provides the next best thing, an urn into which you can plant a tree. Personally, I want a Tibetan sky burial while My Bloody Valentine’s To Here Knows When blasts from speakers all around.

What’s with all this epic music being created by Kiwis of late? First Ghost Wave and now Cool Cult. I’m getting really addicted to New Zealand’s indie scene, particularly this track, Gold Dream. It’s my modern day My Bloody Valentine fix mixed with something I quite can’t put my finger on. Yew!

There’s a weird convergence of black metal and shoegaze lately, which is how I stumbled upon this great new band out of northern California called Whirl. Their debut EP, Distressor, picks up where My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive left off.

I’m loving the wispy ‘glam-shoegaze’ music of Wild Nothing, sounding like a bizarre love triangle between Lush, The Delays and My Bloody Valentine. Despite their ethereal qualities, the melodies are catchy and the guitar flits between a soaring soundscape and rhythmic picking. They’ve just released a new album, Gemini, and are getting some good props across the board. [Listen to the Wild Nothing song, Chinatown]

I was hooked the minute I heard the captivating opening guitar riff in Ghostwood’s I Am Overcast. It’s got a glitzy Brit shoegaze feel that flirts with psychedelic elements.

I’m hearing a Cobain-style vocal, a little Ride guitars, some My Bloody Valentine in the effects, and maybe even a wee bit of Pixies and Jeff Buckley thrown into the mix. Overall, it’s ace and such a good listen to kill time while these Sydney rockers record demos for a new album. It’s hard to pin down The Psychic Paramounts. The New York band sounds a bit like My Bloody Valentine at times, and nightmarish David Lynch soundtracks at others, layering folk, rock, and electronic elements to create a moody, auditory haze.
