Artist Momoko Hatano is an emerging jewellery designer, who used her experience working in a silver jewellery workshop as inspiration to launch her own label in 2009. Sculptural and often loaded with meaning, her pieces possess a quirky sense of aesthetic, which is a result of her fine arts background. Ornamentation, animals, found objects, and her own drawings are constant themes embodied within her jewellery work. Hatano’s practice consist of one-off experimental wearables, exhibition works, commissions and contemporary yet timeless pieces that are meticulously hand-crafted in her Sydney based studio. The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project involved fourteen countries around the world filling crates with the best of their local nightlife and exchanging their country’s crate with another. We were there all the way, following Australia’s involvement. And the final stage, with Brazil and Australia swapping crates, was a beauty! As this video attests.

We ran ourselves ragged driving from Baltimore to Portland in 48 hours flat, and by the time we were almost done with our West Coast tour in LA, we were exhausted, stinky, and broke. At moments like these, a little imported sheep’s milk cheese does wonders, which is why we b-lined it to The Cheese Store of Silverlake right after we downed our espresso shots at Intelligentsia right next door.
