Our friends over at the Portable Film Festival, which is a platform for creativity where the content can be downloaded to a laptop, iPod, PSP, or 3G capable mobile phone, have just announced their seven winning entries, including the short film — To Fly or To Fall — featured above. This year the Festival expanded to include a dedicated Animation and a Feature Film category. Their Feature Film winning entry, Emperor, is one hour thirty-six minuets and was viewed over 3000 times during August. Read more

There’s some awesome new work up on New York-based illustrator, Sam Weber’s website, including this one above which is did for the Soulpepper Theatre. We asked him a little while back about what his studio workspace was like: ‘I am fairly particular about where I like to work, and what sort of stuff I like to have around me. There are things that I look at often — a book of Max Ernst collages, one on Yoshitaka Amano, and a big stack of clippings from magazines and the Internet that I will periodically leaf through to get inspired’. Korean-born Okkyung Lee, who has found a niche amongst the regulars at John Zorn’s The Stone, makes intricate cello improvisations based on her classical and jazz training, following a path forged by the likes of Tom Cora, but veering off into her own stranger, noisier directions.
