Milwaukee’s Neon Hunk make spastic, synth-and-drum madness that is likely to trigger seizures in the uninitiated. Their psychotic, candy-colored aesthetic — complete with terrifying masks and stuffed animals — gives no quarter to the faint of heart, but for those whose retinas and ear canals are sufficiently fortified with scar tissue, the duo’s glitched-out dance attack should provide ample cause to bounce around.

The Advertising or Design exhibition at The Eisner, the American Museum of Advertising and Design, was one of the highlights of my recent stay in Milwaukee. Titled Advertising or Design — The Big Question, the exhibition is running until the end of June 2008 and pitches three of the top American advertising firms against three of the top American design agencies. Showcasing some of the most innovative advertising campaigns in American history, the exhibition poses the question of whether advertising or design agencies ultimately deliver the best advertising experience. The incredible illustrative style of Milwaukee’s own Eller Media Company was the standout for me, and learning the creative rationale behind some of the world’s most successful campaigns made for a very interesting and inspiring day out.
