Following the completion of his studies at the Mulhouse School of Art and the School of Decorative Arts of Strasbourg, Michel Gantner became the artistic director of an advertising agency. During 1998 he dedicated himself exclusively to photography, working with Nina Ricci, Kenzo, Cartier, Caron, Hermes, Annayake, and Air France. His nature photography, an area he has worked on for more than a decade, has been the subject of numerous exhibitions, advertising campaigns and publications around the world notably in Japan. For someone like me, who’s been a HUGE Alfred Hitchcock fan all of her life, this is an absolute must-have: The Hitchcock Birds Barbie Doll. YEs, finally a barbie who’s not for the birds. Sometimes the Deviant Art community throws up a gem of a piece. And this one by Papa Ninja is a star. Somehow it’s funny, sexy, and artistically compelling at the same time. Or perhaps that’s just because I’m two hours into the day and haven’t had a coffee yet.
The Deal sisters have dropped off the indie-rock radar of late, but this clip of them covering Hank Williams’ I Can’t Help It reminds us why we all loved them so much back in the day. Incidentally, the Breeders are set to release their new album, Mountain Battles, in April.
I’ve just returned from a well earned holiday at Heron Island, a natural coral cay off the coast of Queensland. We arrived after a two hour boat trip from Gladstone, and departed with a 30 minute helicopter trip. We walked around the island most days, the trip taking a leisurely fifteen minutes. Read more
Writer Warren Ellis and artist Paul Duffield have teamed up for a pretty stunning, albeit mildly cliched webcomic about mysterious survivors in a post-apocalyptic London submerged in water.
Grinning Cat is a beautiful electronic album from prodigious Japanese producer, Susumu Yokota. It borrows liberally from the melodic melancholy of classical music and features subtle drum loops throughout. We interviewed him about the artwork that he creates for each release. Read more
Having just finished a collaboration with Marchesa, jewellery designer Pamela Love’s gothic-inspired line has been picked up by the likes of Erin Wasson, among other celebrity fans. Referencing both nature and science, Love has created a line that is both rock n’ roll and earthy, with talons, claws, peacocks, rams and bear heads all featuring heavily.
