In Kim Lenz’s cool new video for Zombie For Your Love, she goes on a full moon date to the wildest bar in town and shows her date why she’s ‘not like other girls’. Sound familiar? Yes, it’s a not-so-subtle nod to Michael Jackson’s Thriller, though the video was started in June, before he passed away.

Mickey Jackson Mouse, an artwork by atelier Alessio Blanco for Walt Disney Company, was created a few weeks before Michael Jackson died and is based around the idea that ‘Mickey Mouse is an anthropomorphic mouse trying so hard to look like a man but can now resort to plastic surgery to achieve his main goal’. The artwork is currently on display in Hong Kong’s Times Square. Read more

I spent the formative first six years of my life in Wellington, New Zealand, a beautiful windswept city framed by a magnificent harbour in one direction and a stunning collection of green, rolling hills in the other. It was here, on a return visit many years later and deep amongst the clipped accents and ruddy faces of the weather-beaten locals, that I stumbled upon the vast catalogue of the then Dunedin based record label Flying Nun. I’m a big fan of Alex Turner’s side project, The Last Shadow Puppets. It’s just really good music. When I first got their record, I didn’t know if it was a re-issue or if it was brand new. It doesn’t sound like a jokey pastiche. It sounds sincere.

I love this track by London based rock group, Scanners, which is off their latest album, Submarine. Having toured with acts such as The Horrors, The Wedding Present, The Charlatans, Electric Six, and Juliette & The Licks, Scanners could well blow up in 2010. Figuratively speaking, not literally. No, that wouldn’t be fun.
Alex Passapera’s dizzying pen and ink drawings are cascades of images melting into one another, often looking like contorting, mutating creatures spewing blood-like ink splatters. Read more
