This is the official video for Ed Sheeran’s new song, You Need Me, I Don’t Need You, where the lyrics are signed by an 80s Michael Jackson looka-like. It just goes to show that simple equals good. Hey, isn’t he that guy from Harry Potter?

There’s a special energy when heavyweights share the stage. Like The Last Waltz, or whenever Danzig did Last Caress with Metallica. This might hold the crown though. James Brown and his band playing with BB King in 83, invites both Michael Jackson on stage, who gets spirits up, and then Prince, who brings the house down (literally).

Dan Seaton Brown must have a soft drink addiction. Seriously, he created this stunning portrait of Michael Jackson using only discarded aluminum cans. It was all for a good cause, of course: promoting the opening of the Michael Jackson movie screening at the Regent in Los Angeles. Wink wink. Read more

Simply stunning! This arrangement of Wacko Jacko’s dark pop epic, Smooth Criminal, by Stjepan Hauser and Luka Sulic shows the power of a great melody in the hands of virtuoso musicians.

Dame Edna Everage looking anything but average, Michael Jackson small and sensitive? It all seems rather fitting, really. As does the rest of this brilliant series of photos featuring pets tussled, styled and pampered like the hungry celebrities that they are. Read more

It seems the music world is still gaga for MJ. Michael Jackson: The Remix Suite features remixes by the Neptunes, Polow Da Don and Dallas Austing. I particularly dig this version of ABC produced by Salaam Remi.

In Kim Lenz’s cool new video for Zombie For Your Love, she goes on a full moon date to the wildest bar in town and shows her date why she’s ‘not like other girls’. Sound familiar? Yes, it’s a not-so-subtle nod to Michael Jackson’s Thriller, though the video was started in June, before he passed away.

Mickey Jackson Mouse, an artwork by atelier Alessio Blanco for Walt Disney Company, was created a few weeks before Michael Jackson died and is based around the idea that ‘Mickey Mouse is an anthropomorphic mouse trying so hard to look like a man but can now resort to plastic surgery to achieve his main goal’. The artwork is currently on display in Hong Kong’s Times Square. Read more

From the Motown archives, this is a rare radio session recorded in the early 70s and featuring the original Jackson 5 — Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael — all interviewing one another. During the podcast you’ll hear a very young sounding Michael talk about his favorite sports, bands, even what he looks for in a girl – all an instinctive brotherly banter, providing a nice reminder of where it all began. We’ve just had word that the doyen of pop quirkiness, Michael Jackson, has been rushed to a Los Angeles hospital after having a suspected heart attack. It’s tragic news. Such a brilliant performer, an endlessly mysterious figure, and a gifted songwriter, as this classic cut confirms.

There’s something that seems personal and honest in Jaime Zollars’ work with the expressions on her characters’ faces as vital to the narratives encapsulated in her paintings as the compositional elements.
Oh man, my eyeballs feel like they’re dropping out of my head. This clip is pyschedelic in a way that platform shoes and polyester shoes could never be. The Faint are the shizz, and that’s the truth.

I recently passed through Detroit and saw the Heidelberg Project, an amazing street installation by Tyree Guyton. It felt like walking through a ghost town that had been ravished by art zombies, hauntingly beautiful and particularly sad on the rainy day I was there. Read more

Give me a minor key song anytime. Yup, I’ll take the heartfelt purity of an introspective trawl over any warm and fuzzy major key shimmy. I once asked UK band The Editors why there aren’t more cheerful songs in the world: ‘Three words’, vocalist Tom Smith replied. ‘Shiny Happy People’. He smirked. I grimaced. Enough said.

Sometime in 2010, the folks behind Dirty Dishes had the slightly silly idea of using cheeky vintage photos and putting them on dinner plates. After doing lots of research, talking to lots of people, and receiving loads of positive feedback, they wondered if this idea was so silly after all. And thus Dirty Dishes was born. Read more
