We asked Melbourne-based artist Justin Williams to tell us about his work: ‘I am always interested in the way humans and animals relate to each other, and the similarities we share, as well as the major differences. This work was inspired by my girlfriend’s dog, and a photo of her as a child, joining the two together as if they both cant make decisions without the other’. Read more

Beautiful, pretty, divine, lavish, vivid. These are the words you will find your mind spinning towards as you stroll through the Lounge Kat world. Kate McInnes is the mistress behind the wonderful illustrations, which will have any otaku drooling like a Pavlovian creature. Combined like the text from twisted poetry, her recent collaborations with fellow Melbourne artist Bucket ‘o’ Thought are sure to inspire.
Australian illustrator Ken Taylor has created imagery for some of rock n’ ’roll’s great purveyors of sound, from the Rolling Stones and Queens of the Stone Age, to Nine Inch Nails and the Mars Volta. He has an easily recognizable style that screams sharp edge cool. Bold and bawdy, Taylor’s pieces use vivid colour to create a cut-out-comic-like feel reminiscent of old movie posters from the 1930s and 40s.
These incredible photos of the northern lights over Troms, Norway were taken by photographers Tommy Eliassen, Fredrik Broms, Justin Dernier, and Patrick Pleul, and featured on the always inspiring Lightbox section of Time Magazine online. Read more
The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project involved fourteen countries around the world filling crates with the best of their local nightlife and exchanging their country’s crate with another. We were there all the way, following Australia’s involvement. And the final stage, with Brazil and Australia swapping crates, was a beauty! As this video attests.
I’ve always been a big fan of the Herakut duo and am loving their new murals in LA. I love the balance of softly rendered elements mixed with the quick harsh strokes and a touch of cleverness. Read more
My Kid Is Gifted is a site where people share hilarious and gifted kid stories and sayings. It’s aditcive and nearly impossible to not crack a smile at the adorableness of it all.
The pan flutes can get a little much, but I still really like Mariee Sioux debut studio album Faces in the Rocks. I’m hoping she has a new album in the works. Listen to her cover of the Cure’s Love Song below.

The mining and refining that provides the world with precious metals is also extremely damaging to the environment – each ounce of gold mined generates 30 tons of waste, much of which is toxic. Philadelphia-based Rust Belt make unique, finely crafted earrings, necklaces, and bracelets entirely from re-purposed and recycled materials. The processes they use to make their pieces are also environmentally sound, and they are shipped in beautiful, re-purposed glass bottles.
