The first section of the High Line in New York’s Meat Packing district opened last week. Go check out the beautiful gardens atop of amazing architecture by Frank Gehry [The IAC Building], Polshek Partnership [The NY Standard Hotel], Shigeru Ban [Metal Shutter Houses] and other notable architects. Designed by James Corner Field Operations, with Diller Scofidio + Renfro, highlights of the elevated garden walkway include moveable deckchairs on the old railroad tracks, a water feature to cool your hot feet, and a glass viewing window that is like a futuristic TV screen looking down on the traffic below. Belgian architect Vincent Callebaut is an award-winning designer with varied projects. This one, entitled The Lilypad, is nothing short of amazing. It’s an eco-city, floating on water, with the ability to accommodate upwards of 50,000 people. If built as designed, this structure (which uses most, if not all, available environmental technologies) would sustainably produce more power than it would consume.
Quiksilver, the surfing apparel company, has just released what is being considered the world’s first eco-friendly watch. Made of sustainable ebony wood and running on automatic movement instead of batteries, this limited-edition watch is green down to the shipping of the raw materials. Every raw material used in making this watch is recyclable (the aluminum, the steel, and the mineral crystal are all 100% recyclable), and it also includes solvent free links and is shipped by sea rather than by air. The Ray has a five-year warranty, meaning that it has a longer life than normal watches.
I always loved the powerful drawings of Benjamin Guedel, but didn’t enjoy browsing his website. Now he has a new easy to navigate site, so I can share his work with those unlucky ones who haven’t seen his drawing skills yet. Read more

I ran a series of 80s nights in New York last year — showing cult 80s movies and playing classic cuts from that era of kitsch and spice — purely so I could spin After The Fire’s Der Kommissar over and over. Yessir, this was the future of music in 1983. Pity no one was listening.
A project of my producer and drummer, Tucker Martine, Mount Analog’s soundscapes are gorgeous, melty mixes of organic and processed sounds. Martine brings the best musicians together to create strange and beautiful music.
