We’re excited about the upcoming Michael Mararian of M. Mararian’s Inky Dreadfuls exhibition of new works — Phobias, Foibles and Fiends — which is opening in July at Culver City, California’s Corey Helford Gallery: ‘The exhibition features an installation of over thirty macabre ink renderings which reflect a humorous, yet intensely personal examination of lost innocence in our modern society, dealing with psychological fears, character flaws, and complexes of the human id. After becoming frustrated with the Amazon website when trying to buy a Kindle from Australia, I decided to document the awful process I went through, and provide my idea’s in the form of a redesign.
I love this image by Rhea Garen because of the mix of reality and fantasy. The scene of a small cottage-like house in the woods immediately brings me back to some of my favorite childhood stories, like Hansel and Gretel or Sleeping Beauty. I feel like this could have been the woodcutter’s home, or the hide-out where Sleeping Beauty was taken by the three fairies, Flora, Fauna and Merriweather. There is a certain whimsy yet depth, candor yet mystery, all present in this one shot.
I’m really excited about the Melbourne band Plug-in City. They remind me of Belle & Sebastian, The Kooks and Cut Copy all in one. What more can us New Yorkers ask for?

Italian brand Brionvega has resurrected the classy Radiofonografio piece first created in 1965. The updated version is just like the original turntable/radio unit, but also has a CD/DVD player.
Pitched as ‘Ulterior Motives in Contemporary Art’, Disorder Disorder is running until November 14 at Penrith Regional Gallery. It’ll be well worth the trip out west of Sydney: the Australian, Japanese, American and European cast reads like a warriors of street art roundup and includes Mike Giant, Ed Templeton, Anthony Lister [artwork above], Ozzie Wright, and Jonathan Zawada.
