In this music video, the artist combined traditional watercolor techniques with digital effects. Every texture, illustration or letter was painted and scanned several times to achieve this beautiful effect. It took weeks to produce because of the high level of details and the painting effect the artist wanted to achieve. It’s a brilliant combination of traditional art and motion graphics. The artist is the same guy behind experimental music videos from Mos Def and Amon Tobin. This is the first project of Sublime Silence, a collaborative studio that specializes in fine art and experimental videos.

I won’t spoil it but his website is worth the listing alone, a poke at how much time people waste online. His book of lyrics, recently published by Faber, shows just how good a lyricist he is, but also includes his warning to other songwriters never to mistake your lyrics for poetry. Translation: don’t disappear up your own arse.

I don’t even remember where I first saw and fell in love with UK-based digital artist and illustrator Mark McEvoy’s work. He certainly has a flair for messing about with text and captioned content — and they just work in an inappropriate but apt way. New Lyrics for Old Songs is his altered books project that seems to run on tap with a virtually inexhaustible pool of pictures.
