MIXA in association with Lost At E Minor and My Secret Playlist are giving YOU the chance to win a MIXA.

The 1GB USB tape has the cool aesthetic of the 80s classic cassette tape but meets the needs of the digital-hungry 2009 crowd.

Just like you and I, each MIXA is an individual and likes to standout from the masses.

You can choose from one of the pre-made designs created (with love) by the MIXA team and style it up with the stickers that come with it. Or you can create your own bespoke version by emailing in your designs or images for the MIXA team to play around with on their special digital MIXA maker.

Whatever route you choose, you will end up with a cool, one off MIXA design that has your personality stamped all over it.

Once you have made your MIXA, you become an official member of the gang and get your spot on the MIXA ‘Map of Love’. So get with the programme and undigital your digital.

In order to get your hands on a free MIXA we want to know what song you secretly sing in the shower. Submit your answer below and we’ll pick our favorite. And yes, we happily take bribes. No, really.

Follow the MIXA team on Twitter @MAKEAMIXA for updates.

There’s an interview with myself and my Lost At E Minor co-founder, Zac, on the latest installment of the always interesting and insightful Not Quite Art television series. In it, we speak about the changing landscape of global popular culture in this increasingly digitial age. Bear in mind when watching it that my interview was conducted via Skype video at around 3.20am. Hence the tired eyes and coffee perky demeanor. This excellent series is produced, written and fronted by Marcus Westbury [above], who has this to say about the inspiration behind his exploration of where our collective creative consciousness is heading: ‘When I was a kid, the cultures I had to choose from were pretty simple. If it wasn’t in a book store, a record store, a local gallery or performance centre, something I could find at a video store or read in a magazine, I didn’t know about it. Kids today have access to virtually all the culture in the world, from comic books to computer games, encyclopaedia and images, to the web as a gallery and reference library, to the history of art. Our culture is shifting from the hierarchical, local and parochial structures, to a global and networked world where Australian artists, musicians, critics and troublemakers have audiences of millions around the world, yet often remain relatively unknown in their local community. Series Two of Not Quite Art shows how the cultures that have great impact on us have less and less to do with where we live anymore or even what country we are in’.

Well, several years ago I came across a compilation of obscure electro music called Famous When Dead, which is off the commendably experimental German label, Playhouse. One of the tracks on the album was by the production duo, Light Fantastic, and was titled Lost At C Minor. It’s an awesome song which weaves and winds its way through several distinct melodic changes. Anyway, the name kinda stuck in my head. There was something quite beautiful about the symbolism of being lost in a minor key world. C Minor is an interesting chord, but being a musician with an ear for the melancholic, I’ve long thought that E Minor was the most evocative and honest of the keys – haunting, endearing, a little sombre, yet strangely uplifting. So when we were brainstorming a name for this website and newsletter that would showcase all the magnificent cultural things that we love, the name Lost At E Minor leapt out just like the song had done the first time I heard it. It captures the immediacy of the moment but also hints at the depth of those that we feature. But above all, it’s about total immersion in this artistic, creative world we seek to create where anything is truly possible.
