I like the earthy realism of illustrator Rob Bridges’ work. Of his work, he says: ‘From my earliest memory, I have always drawn. As a child in school I never liked to read. My father and teacher’s remedy was to draw pictures on the inside flaps of my school books. Somehow this was meant to boost my interest in reading. Yet, it created a child who took great pleasure drawing on the inside flaps of all my father’s books and papers’. Read more

Working out of Los Angeles, artist Josh Cochran creates amazing illustrations with a well-developed eye for detail and colour. He grew up in Taiwan, spending most of his time indoors, drawing fantastic creatures and comic book characters. Throughout grade school, he kept on drawing, resulting in a profitable career-clients including The New York Times Magazine, MTV, Nike and Target. He also has an amazing online store selling a great selection of prints and a few bags. You’ve got to be quick though

Rosemary Squire is a UK-based illustrator who creates three dimensional illustrations. Her models are created using polymer clay, wire, found objects, and cloth, which are then digitally photographed for illustration. Her work is influenced significantly by her close observation of people and their quirks. Squire has featured in The AOI Images annual (2008, 2009) and was awarded The AOI Art Critic Award 2008. Wolf and Cub are back with a brand new single and after listening to it, I feel like I should be out in the streets, warning my neighbours of the apocalypse. The song is huge, forceful, damming and painfully exciting. Joel Byrne’s half-drawl, half-howl proclaims the end, while (in true Wolf and Cub) the drums are epic and unsettling. And then, that moment, the bass against the fading echoes. My heart broke and my brain exploded. It’s too much to take. This band will be the death of me.
In late 80s and early 90s, the Illustrated Laser Ray and futuristic grids aesthetic was a sensation, years before it began to diminish abruptly. But just like every fashion, it became mainstream and mutated into portrait backgrounds. A large amount of these pictures are documented on the Laser Portraits websites. Read more
This water theatre by the British architect, Sir Nicholas Grimshaw of Grimshaw Architects, takes the form of a vertical seawater greenhouse, with the evaporators and condensers stacked vertically to maximise yield. The structure is not only a visible engine of sustainability but is also a large theatre auditorium. Read more
Films involving characters faced with an impossible choice never make easy viewing, an example being the Nick Cave Australian gem, The Proposition. A nightclub manager, played with understated power by Joaquin Phoenix, is the victim here, and you actually feel truly uncomfortable as his predicament unfolds. Set in the 1980s, We Own The Night shows a real nostalgia for that period — particularly in the costumes. Read more
