One of our favourite illustrators, Marco Cibola (of Nove Studios fame) has recently launched a new site with updated illustration work and personal projects. We checked in with him to see what else has been keeping him busy: ‘My wife and I had a baby girl. Her name is Sadie. I’ve been working on a big series of paintings for my first solo show in LA. And a few commercial gigs here and there. Not much time for anything else except eating and sleeping’. Have you discovered any exciting new artists, illustrators, and bands that you can share with us? ‘I’m kind or rediscovering a few artists that I’ve always liked. Younger guys like Ryan Wallace and Joseph Hart are doing some really great work. I’ve been doing some reading up on Sol Lewitt too, I’ve been getting interested in the ideas behind his work. My wife turned me onto Ruth Asawa too. Her work is beautiful’. Read more

They’re touring with Kimya Dawson; have Karen O and Nick Zinner from Yeah Yeah Yeahs playing on their record and have already been remixed by Brazilian powerhouse, CSS. And that’s not all. They are a two piece, and one of them is 11 and the other 13! They’re called Tiny Masters of Today. The Ramones would approve.
Skateboarding is fun. I know this because we have one in our apartment which we use to cruise across the polished floorboards to get from room to room. Though I should acknowledge at this point that I use the term ‘cruise’ liberally. Read more

Just a few days ago, Benjamin Verdoncke climbed out of the human-sized nest he’d been residing in for the past seven days. The Dutch artist took six weeks to build the nest, which hung fifty metres high against a skyscraper in Rotterdam. Read more

DJ Spooky — That Subliminal Kid — is just about the deepest crate digger around, trawling the barrels of long-lost record stores for choice vinyl to spin in his wickedly dubby sets. He gave us the inside word last week on his eight favourite songs right now via our sister website, My Secret Playlist. This is what he had to say about Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry’s Panic in Babylon: ‘If there’s anything that the twenty-first century has told us, it’s that dub is the real original hip-hop. Freelance designer Alex Trochut uses typography, illustration and a solid idea to create works that communicate to each brief. He states that he doesn’t want to choose a particular style but instead enjoys ‘expressing himself and communicating though the needs of every project’. And his formula has worked: his clients include The Guardian G2, Nike Football, and my pencil-case favourite, Faber and Faber.
David Holmes’ The Holy Pictures
David Holmes’ fourth solo album has been a long time in the making. The man who is best known for his scoring of films such as Ocean’s 11, 12 and 13, and remixing for bands like U2 and The Manic Street Preachers, took just over ten years to make his latest album. Read more
