Visiting London’s Broadway Markets is always a fun afternoon, especially when the sun is shining gloriously. It features a variety of organic food, meats, coffee, tea, sweets, fashion, and vintage clothing. At the moment, it’s all about jewellery for me, and I couldn’t resist these fantastic enamel tea cup necklaces by Buddug Wyn Humphreys. She has a market stall with Jessie Chorley, who makes fantastic jewellery, diaries and fabrications of yum. If you don’t mind a bit of a walk from Bethnal Green and Hackney, the Broadway Market is a welcome surprise.
Born in a sub-provincial city of China, and raised in the suburbs of Northern California, Brooklyn-based artist Jing Wei attended the Rhode Island School of Design where she ‘developed a great affinity for printmaking, snow, and pizza’.
When I was a kid and my family went to the Japanese strip mall across the river in New Jersey, an occasional trip that I always looked forward to, I was mesmerized by the hyper-realistic fake food on display there. Now, you can get these food replicas as iPhone cases! They’re making me hungry.
Back in the day, when I was a skinny teenager on the great pedestal of life, I had a real obsession for the understated, low-fi, deliciously melodic and somewhat blurry sounds of the New Zealand Flying Nun bands. I would pool my meagre savings and canvas the local record shops, scouring the racks for the latest cassettes from The Bats, The Chills, The Clean, and, later, The Straitjacket Fits. Read more
As a non-coffee drinker, I’m not going to rant about the coffee. I’ve heard, though, that the coffee is damn good. But I am going to talk about something else: food. Oh. My. God. Sydney’s Single Origin cafe have this awesome meatloaf sandwich and a raft of sourdoughs and prosciutto and roast lamb and chevre and chunky steak pies and yogurt with compote and four-cheese toasties and baked beans and … oh! Don’t forget Karlie’s special homemade lemonade! Karlie is always in the house so you know that it doesn’t come from a can and arrives at your table with that sour tang that reminds you of the annual Royal Easter Show. Wolf and Cub are back with a brand new single and after listening to it, I feel like I should be out in the streets, warning my neighbours of the apocalypse. The song is huge, forceful, damming and painfully exciting. Joel Byrne’s half-drawl, half-howl proclaims the end, while (in true Wolf and Cub) the drums are epic and unsettling. And then, that moment, the bass against the fading echoes. My heart broke and my brain exploded. It’s too much to take. This band will be the death of me.
These delicate sterling silver earrings have two hand hammered layers of silver with a soft white finish. In the center of each earring is a small peach moonstone. These earrings hang flatteringly close to the face on small sterling silver ear wires. Each earring measures 0.75 inches in diameter.

Pencils made from recycled newspaper
The problem with awesome things like these pencils made out of recycled newspaper is that you almost don’t want to use them.
Using Kyoko Hashimoto’s popular design, these acrylic earrings are made with unique hand formed sterling silver sleepers that make them light enough for everyday wear. Part of Kyoko’s collection, I Blame the Uni, (pronounced ‘oo-nee’, the Japanese name for sea urchin) and inspired by her experiences in the underground club scene of Tokyo. Read more
