I caught this Argentinean musician play in a church in London last Sunday evening, and as the first few bars echoed around the hall, I couldn’t really think of a better way to finish off the week. The sound and the setting were seamlessly joined at the hip, as if she alone took the place of the hordes of choristers that normally fill the church. Molina has mastered the art of looping and layering, both vocally and instrumentally, and so her and the two backing musicians treat their audience to a sound that is almost orchestral in its size. I love the rich colours and sense of unrehearsed movement about the photography of New York-based, Anna Skladmann. She studied at Parsons School of Design before undertaking yearly internships at Annie Leibovitz’s studio and the Magnum Photo Agency. Read more
Italian painter Nicola Samori is a man out of his time. He paints meticulously detailed Baroque-style portraits reminiscent of Caravaggio and Van Dyck. Read more
I’m really excited about the Melbourne band Plug-in City. They remind me of Belle & Sebastian, The Kooks and Cut Copy all in one. What more can us New Yorkers ask for?

I’m enjoying the writing on the recently launched The Epi-Cure blog, which discusses the ‘latest scientific studies on health and nutrition’, and features interviews with ‘expert scientists, dieticians, and nutritionists’. The site’s founder and editor, Michelle Grey, also runs tasty, healthy recipes from New York chef Benjamin Towill, including today’s installment: Stuffed Zucchini Flowers [above]. Hmmm hmm. Read more
Last weekend I went to the Golden West in Baltimore to check out the What Cheer? Brigade, a marching band from Providence. I wasn’t expecting much, but when they opened with a cover of Slayer’s Raining Blood, my knees buckled. I think I could hear a musak version of that riff, and I’d still bang my head. The rest of the band’s set was just as riotous, with people dancing so hard, you’d think we were at Mardi Gras. I haven’t had that much fun at a show in ages.

Boxfresh is a British streetwear company notable for its emphasis on DIY fashion. Their Boxfresh vs Series, a collection of collaborations ranging from straight fashion into the bicycle arena, has just launched their latest battle — between Boxfresh and Pete Fowler, of Super Furry Animals artwork fame.
