Known as the master of portrait photography, this exhibition of Annie Leibowitz’s works at the National Portrait Gallery in London marks her out as a truly versatile artist. Her landscape images of the Wadi Rum in Jordan, and her bleak, shuddering portrayal of a normally still and silent Monument Valley are utterly encapsulating and haunting. Also in this collection is a very daring and intimate look at her family, and her relationship with Susan Sontag, traced right up to her death. Read more
I’ve been a huge fan of Brooklyn illustrator Rachel Domm’s work since we went to school together and she would painstakingly paint and silkscreen all of her images. It’s since evolved into beautiful, textured, smartly layered graphic images, but with the printmaking influence still clearly evident.
Sato Tokihiro is a Japanese photographer who creates light paintings to allude to a poetic vision of a chaotic world. He will open the shutter sometimes for more than two hours, using his large format camera to take us to another dimension. Read more
Produced by our talented friends over at Miami-based studio, Common Machine, this is the first installment of a new bi-monthly series of exclusive Lost At E Minor videos that they will be putting together for us. This one is on marionette maker, Pablo Cano, who uses ‘mundane objects to create magic on a string’. And he does. We hope you enjoy!
New York-based Japanese artist Shusaku Arakawa designed this small apartment block in 2005 in the Tokyo suburb of Mitaka in conjunction with his poet partner, Madeline Gins. According to the SushiLog: ‘Painted in eye-catching blue, pink, red, yellow and other bright colors, the building resembles the indoor playgrounds that attract toddlers at fast-food restaurants. Inside, each apartment features a dining room with a grainy, surfaced floor that slopes erratically, a sunken kitchen and a study with a concave floor. Electric switches are located in unexpected places on the walls so you have to feel around for the right one. A glass door to the veranda is so small you have to bend to crawl out’. Read more
