Like-minded people from more than sixty cities around the world gather the third Friday of each month to share ideas and enjoy coffee (or tea, check the recent trends) to network in a human way. Face to face. Likemind meetings don’t have structure: they are free, organic, and without agenda. Participants exchange ideas, projects, tips and contacts, while also discussing what’s happening in their cities, the net, art, business and culture. The initiative came from trend consultant, Piers Fawke from PSFK, and Noah Brier, head of strategic planning at the Barbarian Group in New York. They have been gathering creative minds for over two years under the simple but powerful concept of Likemind meetings.
A simple way to sum up Cassandra Smith’s artwork would be to describe it as ‘bedazzled taxidermy’. Further inspection of her work reveals careful precision, amazing attention to detail, and a whole new spin and respect for the decorative arts. Read more
Photojournalist You Li has an impressive array of stark personal photos of various barren, empty/emptying natural and human landscapes across China, images not often seen of the world’s most populous nation. They’re sad and gritty, but also achingly poetic. Read more
The Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project involved fourteen countries around the world filling crates with the best of their local nightlife and exchanging their country’s crate with another. We were there all the way, following Australia’s involvement. And the final stage, with Brazil and Australia swapping crates, was a beauty! As this video attests.
Alice in Wonderland-obsessives take note: the fantastical and whimsically surreal artist, Mark Ryden, will be signing copies of his latest book, The Tree Show, at the MOCA store in Los Angeles on Jan 31st. Read more

The Duchesses recently sent us a copy of their latest EP, By Morning, released in April at the Excelsior Hotel in Sydney. The atmospheric four-track cuts through the usual noise and delivers a rhythmic mix of guitars, beats and vocals. Baltimore Mural by Josh Van Horne
My friend Josh Van Horne, a local Baltimore artist, did this amazing mural in our neighborhood that depicts the history of this warehouse-laden area.
