Angular Momentum is a fun little game which is a little like pinball in that you use your arrow keys to shift a ball’s momentum to propel it through a series of maze-like tubes. Robot and the Cities that Build Him isn’t a complicated game. In fact, the ability to use a mouse is about all the skill the game requires. That’s exactly what makes it such a time vortex. You are a giant robot that is seeking revenge on humanity. The lasers from your eyes shoot automatically, so you don’t have to aim or press anything to destroy the pathetic humans. If you have a few hours (or days) to kill, there’s no more enjoyable way to waste it than by shooting a kitten out of cannon. Online of course. Kitten Cannon is about as simple as it gets. But it’s a hoot. And yes, we’ve been assured that no kittens were harmed in the making of it.

While the Belizean Islands are some of the most beautiful and tranquil in the world, Belize City is one of those uninspiring places that most people travel in and out of very quickly. However, if you do find yourself stranded there, as I did, the city does have one redeeming attraction. Approximately twenty kilometres west of the centre, you’ll find the Belize Zoo — which the founders call the ‘best little zoo in the world’. It relies on charitable donations and has gained huge respect for housing native Belizean wildlife, such as jaguars, howler monkeys, tapirs, ocelots and toucans, in natural, tropical surroundings. If you’re there on the first Friday in April, you can even join hundreds of visitors in celebrating the birthday of the zoo’s resident tapir, April. The zoo has an awesome rasta-vibe, and the hand-written information posts are guaranteed to make you giggle.
Interior design website, Apartment Therapy, just posted some amazing pictures of ’70s rock stars in their parents’ homes. My favorite is of David Crosby and his dad [below]. The two look so completely opposite of each other that it’s hard to believe that it’s Crosby’s real dad. They also look like they’re barely concealing the contempt they have for each other. Crosby’s father was an Academy-Award-winning cinematographer who shot Tabu and High Noon, amongst other well-known films. Read more
Austin band The Low Lows are one of my most prized finds of the year so far. It’s introspective music — staggered harmonies delivered by a distant, agonised voice that filters through a wall of tranquil guitar distortion and measured drumming. Every instrument carries a powerful emotion, sometimes keeping their distance from one another, floating up and around the airwaves, and other times colliding and crashing back to earth.
