Milke are inspired by the third French wave of Kitsune artists, electro pop, Stuart Price and The DFA, all mixed in with the pop sensibilities of Eurythmics, The Cure, Talking Heads, Stevie Wonder and Prince. Their new single, Love Get Out Of My Way, is out on Friendly’s label, Gulp, home of Joe and Will Ask, and New York scream-pop act, Black Peter Group. We’ve posted about artists Maya Hayuk and Jen Stark individually, but now they have a joint exhibition, Double Rainbow Rainbow, up at the Show & Tell Gallery in Toronto. I wish I could make it. From the images on the gallery site, the two artists’ styles compliment each other perfectly. Read more

This one-stop shop for all things eco-friendly is proof that protecting the environment is becoming a popular pastime. Almost every material category that comprises our society, from design to celebrity to transport, is looked at through a green lens. They’re ranked number twenty-two on Technorati’s list of 75,000,000 blogs, and even Daryl Hannah is singing their praises. Why? Its writers, they claim, ‘have the ability to take topics that most of us snoozed our way through in school, and make them the addictive juicy, green bits that they are’.
Analog electronics by British outfit Belbury Poly (Jim Jupp and Eric Zann) make me believe machines have souls and the ghosts of obsolete recording devices are haunting the dusty stacks of libraries debating the relevance of 60s avant-garde music and counterculture.
