Kate MccGwire graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2004 and has since exhibited all over London, winning a solo show at 2009′s Heart of Glass. Her most recent installations are taken from thousands of pigeon feathers, flowing water and even a mouldy growth on a wall. We asked her why she uses pigeon feathers: ‘I’m currently using pigeon feathers as they come from a bird that is generally reviled — regarded as vermin and referred to as “rats with wings”. I started to collect pigeon feathers that moulted from the birds in a shed next to my studio. I realized that they were actually very beautiful’.

I’ve spent a good deal of time in Nashville lately and had the opportunity to eat in some delicious restaurants there. Meat and threes, Thai, Greek, and more. But topping them all was Mas Tacos. They use deep fried avocados. And the best part is, they have a Winnebago serving it up all over the city.

We invited Greg Gillis, aka Girl Talk, who aside from being the DJ of the moment is also the remix whiz behind tracks from Beck, Tokyo Police Club, and Grizzly Bear, to give us a rundown on the songs he’s wearing out right now for our sister site, My Secret Playlist. He started off by propping Beyonce’s anthemic single, Single Ladies [listen below]. Go figure! ‘This is one of my favorite Beyonce tracks ever. It has so much energy, and the chorus gets dark in a great way. The clapping never stops. The video is a flawless execution of a performance style clip. It’s perfect’. The sound New Zealand band The Brunettes make is Hallmark card pop — naïve sincerity mixed with low-fi, casual kitsch. Says chief songwriter, Jonathan Bree: ‘You’ll find us somewhere between US punk and just before classic 60s romps’. And so we will.

Part of Kyoko’s collection, I Blame the Uni, (pronounced ‘oo-nee’, the Japanese name for sea urchin) and inspired by her experiences in the underground club scene of Tokyo. Read more
