A brooding, psychotic Johnny Depp slitting throats against one of Tim Burton’s most macabre backdrop’s to date should be all the encouragement anyone needs. The music might discourage some, but it’s so well integrated with painstakingly constructed sets, costumes and fine performances that it only adds to the experience. Depp’s softly spoken-sung lyrics convey palpable emotion, while all the actors display exceptional vocal talents. Read more

 

I began this project with the somewhat creepy idea to photograph the people I meet during my travels – whilst they were asleep. Luckily, on waking, most people are simply bemused as I explain why I’ve photographed them unawares. Last week when the 2008 ARIA nominations were released, I was so happy to see the recognition of Melbourne’s Eddy Current Suppression Ring. Their album Primary Colours is pure, unadulterated Aussie rock, standing out from the numerous electro releases we’ve had this year. The band manages to capture that wonderful pub-vibe without any pretension or tragic nostalgia. Primary Colours speaks to people who still seek an existence that is all about wearing ripped jeans, loitering and punching people in the face … not in a violent way, but because your fist flailed in that direction while you were thrashing around front of stage.

Ninety percent of the time, you can pick a Scandinavian brand from a metric mile away, which is not necessarily a bad thing considering that the Scands have such a refined, clean approach to thinking about clothes. Read more
