Despite both being highlights of twentieth century avant garde art, John Cage and Rahsaan Kirk never met. But documentary director, Dick Fontaine, did a genius job in putting their work next to each other. John Cage would have turned 100 in September. Aside from his musical compositions, he also was a great poet and in this video, you get to see him performing his texts montaged with performances by Rahsaan Roland Kirk, whom Quincy Jones once called ‘the master of black classical music’. Jimi Hendrix loved his stuff and it’s easy to see why.

Okay, so last month, we found Nicolas Cage emoting to Arcade Fire’s My Body Is a Cage. Now, thanks to the sharp editing of a certain Adam Lucas, we find the actor silently acting out all four minutes and thirty-three minutes of experimental John Cage’s seminal 1952 work.

As if walking through a forest filtered through the mind of John Cage, sculptor Jamey Grimes creates minimal landscapes punctuated by light and depth. Grimes’ work is directly influenced by nature, memory, and metaphor. Echoes of trees, oceans and forests are suspended in floating light. The scale and beauty of the installations can be overwhelming, and the experience is often described as spiritual.
