If you haven’t heard of Jessica Hische, you are really missing out. This designer and letterer has astounding talent. I had the opportunity to hear her speak at an AIGA event, and she was delightful. She trained under Louise Fili, and it really shows. Check out her website in teenage girl mode for a laugh. Then head over to her portfolio to see her classic novel covers. They won’t disappoint.
On May 14, Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, California, is presenting Illustrated Type, an impressive collection of typography-based artwork contributed by more than 30 international artists, including Ed Fella, Brendan Monroe, and Jessica Hische. The exhibit features a variety of mediums: pen and ink, acrylic, crystallized moss, paper-cut, hand embroidery, video projection, and more.
I love the clean, crisp work of Brooklyn illustrator Jessica Hische. Everything she does seems to possess a delicious, polished perfection. From her beautiful hand drawn type — a specialty — to her simple illustrated imagery, everything just feels so immaculately pulled together.
