If jeans were a drug, then Dr Denim’s would indubitably be my drug of choice. But better yet, our favourite Doc’s designs just keep getting cooler and, well … finer. I’m absolutely marvelled by their two latest fits: the Osmond (skinny fit) and Raymond (regular fit). While the Osmond features a bleached down wash in tight fits, the Raymond offers a second-hand look in grey scale denim. Suave, are they not?

Most people would frown when the word Evisu comes out of someone’s mouth. Having built a brand in Japan on the back of quality production, Evisu in recent years has been pretty far off the mark. Things are about to change down in Evisu world with the recent appointment of proven world class denim designer Scott Morrison and his loyal fellow denim head crew.

One of his employees is Miguel Angel Hurtado, who first stared working under Morrison’s guidance when he started little known denim brand, Paper Denim & Cloth ten years ago. Hurtado was thrown the Spring-Summer 2010 collection and told to shoot it with a product focus that would suit the new direction the company was taking. So with the newly washed jeans and the heavily reduced branding Hurtado took a photographer and a friend down to the Williamsburg Bridge in New York and told his friend to just walk around so he could get some shots of him. No posing, no crew, no budget, just a quality made product been taken back to its core, stripped bare and given a new life. People be sure you keep your eyes out for Evisu in 2010. Its going to be big!

Remember hyper-colour t-shirts and Wham’s day-glo video for Wake Me Up Before You Go Go? Yeah? Well these new jeans from Diesel are in the same ballpark. A special fluorescent coating, devised to be glaring under UV lights, is layered on the denim and cotton, so that on denim, hidden graphics are revealed under black lights. Now that’s what we call standing out from the crowd.

Ok, so we all know that low-rider pants are back in again, but these bikini jeans by Japanese fashion label, Sanna Brazil (go figure!), are taking it all that little bit too far. Apparently they combine ‘ultra low-cut blue jeans with an integrated string bikini bottom, with a super sexy yet extremely flattering’ fit. But all I can think of is chafing. Damn! They retail for around US$90.

Much like layers, when it comes to menswear, Old World Gatsby never really goes out of fashion. All tapered straight leg pants, boat shoes and fitted cardigans, ‘The Swing of the Pendulum’ collection by Our Legacy is one of the best uses of old money style I’ve seen. And just adding to the charm of the clothes is the story that goes behind them, a narrative of an Oxford boy travelling to Paris to be appropriately impoverished and intellectual and where, his stylised clothes get all ‘rough around the edges’. That clothes are only as good as the life that they’ve travelled through is really a cornerstone of the way that fashion translates to the real world, whether it’s the wearing in of shoes, the just washed fit of jeans or the thumbholes in a sweater, a sense of style if all about the way that they’ve changed by the person who wears them.
