We’re liking the illustrations in this Champagne Fuelled Jungle promo clip for James Palumbo’s first novel titled Tomas. Palumbo co-founded the iconic South London nightclub, Ministry Of Sound and now presides over a global muti-media business renowned for its daring ideas. It’s his refusal to be daunted by controversy that has enabled him to create in Tomas a unique image of the world which aggressively challenges the moral corruption at the centre of the present financial turmoil. Illustrator Paul X. Johnson’s portrait of Rachel from Blade Runner really was the piece that won me over, but the rest of his noir-ish work is pretty spectacular too. Read more

Schmidt, Hammer and Lassen’s design for the Copenhagen national library is a celebrated structure in the already glittering design portfolio of northern Europe. The marble and glass façade of The Black Diamond (yes, that is what their national library is called) is an example of architectural brilliance, with even the angled walls designed to best mirror the city’s beautiful canals.
The Big Picture’s photo essays are some of the best around: insightful, timely and often confronting in the way great photo essays are. Complementing The Big Picture is The Big Caption, a parody site ‘wherein jokes and statements are made using typography’. Sometimes insightful and always snarky, it pairs poignant photography with blunt observations using a thread of hostility. Read more
