When I was asked to DJ for Betsey Johnson at NY Fashion Week this spring, I thought it was time I sprung for a new set of headphones. I wanted quality, but something a little more discreet than the usual RoboCop shiny plastic jobees. What I found was perfect: the new-ish TMA-1′s by AIAIAI. Damn this song is catchy! Yacht is the cunning alter-ego for duo Jona Bechtolt and Claire L. Evans — an accomplished science writer, artist, and veteran of the LA noise scene. After they recorded a tongue-in-cheek love letter to LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy in the form of their track, Summer Song, Murphy signed them to DFA Records. All of which brings us to their new album, See Mystery Lights, and this track off it: the bouncy, raga tinged Pyschic City. We have it available for free download via the Music Download section of Lost At E Minor, along with new tracks by La Snacks, Magic Wands, Polly Scattergood, and Reed KD.

Crono is a Portugese Urban Art project with the intention of pairing some of the best street artists with huge, beautiful (abandoned) buildings in Lisbon. The idea already has had a significant impact on the ‘look’ of the city and will continue to provide some amazing street art. Read more

Grace is part of a new series of books by author Dale Cusack. The story chronicles the lives of Grace and her feline companion Boot in their struggle to fight the evil Drawl and the cover illustration was done by Auckland-based artist, and Lost At E Minor contributor, Dennis Juan Ma. We asked him about what shaped the colour choices for the piece: ‘I wanted to create a mystery world within the reality. I wanted the colour to encourage readers to stimulate their imagination. I illustrated the covers with a classical Japanese wood block look to show the oriental flavour of the cat’s world. And it just happens that I’m a wood block art fan’. Read more
I caught Austin band Watch Out For Rockets playing the other week at the Beauty Bar, a small smoky den on a bustling hipster strip. Although they hit the stage a few hours late, they still cranked out an awesome set of guitar-based power pop, though they left out my favorite track, Urgent Serpent Merchant (below).

With waiting lists and pre-orders already taking place, there’s enough competition for this label without sharing it with the world. But what the heck. Pitched as ‘Ulterior Motives in Contemporary Art’, Disorder Disorder is running until November 14 at Penrith Regional Gallery. It’ll be well worth the trip out west of Sydney: the Australian, Japanese, American and European cast reads like a warriors of street art roundup and includes Mike Giant, Ed Templeton, Anthony Lister [artwork above], Ozzie Wright, and Jonathan Zawada.
