Laneway culture has been growing in Sydney, and bars and restaurants are taking full advantage of this. Tucked in a nameless laneway off Wentworth Street is Berta, a new modern wine bar that not only offers boutique Italian wines, but sumptuous food.

When a friend propositioned to my normal gastronomy club, there was no hesitancy for anyone in the party. Lining the walls of the entrance are bottles and bottles of wine. Yes, I was hooked immediately. The best dish on the menu? By far the creamy polenta concoction with a variety of different mushrooms stirred through. But if that’s not quite you’re to your palette, try the suckling pig. The food simply melts in your mouth.
