A new website has just sprung up, offering a platform for rising independent filmmakers to network and exhibit their work. Material on Indieroad is reviewed and chosen by a panel of professionals, and visitors can stream and download direct from the site for a small fee – one third of the profits will go straight to the filmmaker. From January 15, they’ll be partnering with the Slamdance Film Festival to provide an online portal to the films showcased there.

 

Some friends and I serendipitously stumbled across the work the artist Hiro Kurata the other night and we have been jointly obsessing over it since. Kurata’s work is torrid, moody and fragmented like a restless dream. Bursting with texture and patterns, it’s simply brilliant. As my friend Andrew Degraff accurately put it, ‘It’s like Savador Dali thrown through a plate glass window’. Indeed. Read more

I wonder if this Hello Kitty-branded septic tank is supposed to distract people from the actual contents of the tank? It does make it look slightly less menacing, I’ll give it that.

Sparks’ album Kimono My House is a demented mix of hard rock, pop, glam, new wave, and baroque pop. Why this record never caught on in the States I’ll never know. The songs will get stuck in your head and prevent you from sleeping. Oh yeah, and the keyboard player has a nice mustache too, as evidenced by this track above — This Town Ain’t Big Enough.
