The Dutch, the beautiful Dutch, in terms of architecture anyway. Here they have led the way again with this reuse of an old crane dock. A new glass office building, with a climatic façade of double glazing, motorized louvers on the outside and full length windows on the inside, hovers above the old dock. Read more

We are the forever dreamers, the magic seekers, and the alchemists of spirit. Theo Jansen is a kinetic sculptor based in Holland. He is a wind sculptor who has created animals that move with the wind and that inhabit their own beaches near his home. He even has a webcam set up inside his studio so the ultimate peeper can watch him tinker away with his wind driven animals as he utters ‘It’s aliiive!” [see more of Theo Jansen's work]
Most people working in her genre use digital paint to create their work, but I love that fantasy artist Stephanie Pui-Mun Law still uses watercolors and pencils to create faries, monsters, and magical landscapes. Her digital pieces are also pretty good. Read more
Not that we’re ones to poke fun (gettit?) at the Facebook supremo, but what the hell: M.I.C Gadget did it for us. Though I say, ‘did’. Their cheeky Poking Inventor toy — ‘the next greatest action figure for tech nerds’ — has just been quietly discontinued. We wonder if Zucks got the sooks? Read more

I stumbled upon this cool street style blog that shows original and edgy people on the streets of Helsinki. Punk, Goth, Harajuku, Pin-up or retro, the people featured here have a unique sense of style. Many of the clothes are modified or created by the owners to fit their personalities and each photo has its own description written by the person in the picture.
It’s only fitting a band of Canadian rootsters like this would tap a mythical figure of folklore for their namesake. Indeed, Ottawa’s The John Henrys understand the power of the familiar. Read more
