I like the look of issue two of Australian magazine, Happenstance, which supports local talent across the design and art community. In the latest issue, local artist and printmaker Del Lumanta invites them into her prizewinning bedroom, alongside sketchbook submissions from Luke Kopycinski, Jacob O. Rolfe, and Evan Shipard: ‘We’ve kept it all homegrown, yet expanded our minds a little. Most of our content is Sydney-sourced, but we’re keeping an eye out on a national scale’. Oh, and if you’ve pre-ordered a copy, chances are it’ll show up at your place on the back of a bike. Nice!
Arguably one of the forefathers of contemporary visual communication, Bruno Munari is, and was, incredible. Designers should immediately buy his book, Design As Art, for the answers to all further questions about anything. Ever.
I have a weak spot for the work of New York illustrator You Byun. Her pastel, Miyazaki-esque landscapes populated with their saucer eyed creatures just make me swoon. It reminds me of several other well-known illustrators working today, but I feel that she is onto something spectacular that will simply continue to evolve until we’re all just utterly blown out of the water.

Creature Mag is a very cool website showcasing the best in new Illustrators. Great little themes such as Freak Of The Week and Happy Fridays. They call for new contributors and want people to get involved. So get involved.
I’ve yet to find out what they put in the water in Germany that generates such a consistently rich stream of good electronica. Carrying the torch at the moment is Hendrik Weber, aka Pantha du Prince, whose early 2007 release, This Bliss, landed on my doormat with a deep bass-kick and hasn’t left my iPod since. Read more
Erin Shaw creates outrageously creative headdresses out of merino wool, birch wood, glass eyes, paint, and felt. So now you can look like you have a dead animal sitting on your head, when you really don’t. Read more
