The Flying Dutchman Reader Find

By The Flying Dutchman in Video on Wednesday 7 November 2012

With Halloween recently passed, we were ready for that time of year when the Santeria runs rampant and the tricks and treats take to the streets. Here’s a wonderfully unsettling Day of the Dead clip to celebrate the past All Hallows’ Eve.

Mind-bending Walking Illusion Halloween costumes

Stuart McBratney Contributor

By Stuart McBratney in New Trends on Thursday 25 October 2012

In an attempt to out-do their neighbours’ costumes on Halloween, folks are going to wonderfully absurd and inventive lengths. If you have a spare $2K, consider a ‘Walking Illusion’ from Stagecraft in the USA. The Donnie Darko bunny no longer cuts it.

New music by The Marshmallow Ghosts

Nathan Marsh Reader Find

By Nathan Marsh in New Music on Wednesday 3 October 2012

Halloween is the best time of year, so why not theme a band around it. The Marshmallow Ghosts strike the perfect tone without cliche or straining to be morbid. Their style is, in fact, the opposite: energetic and poppy, capturing more the excitement of fall than a chainsaw massacre. It’s a project of Ryan Graveface, owner of Graveface Records and Black Moth Super Rainbow member, which pulls talent from the rest of the label’s bands. The past four years they’ve put out an album for Halloween, with a Dreamend (another Ryan Graveface venture) split due this October.

By Adam Graff in Cool Travel on Tuesday 1 November 2011

There are Halloween parties, and Halloween parties, and no-one does Halloween quite like Torture Garden, the world’s largest fetish and body art club. Whoop Dee Doo this Halloween in Kansas City

Alison Zavos Contributor

By Alison Zavos in New Events on Friday 30 October 2009

Whoop Dee Doo is a performance art group based out of Kansas City, Missouri, and hosted by Jaimie Warren and Matt Roche, alongside fifteen or so other cast and crew members. They travel internationally to put on random shows that, visually at least, remind me of a G-Rated John Waters movie. The idea of Whoop Dee Doo shows is based upon kid-friendly faux public access TV programs (they are filmed but don’t actually air) that appear highly entertaining for adults as well. Last year, they performed at Deitch Projects’ holiday party, amongst other places.

Dogs dressed up for Halloween

The Uncool Hunter Reader Find

By The Uncool Hunter in Cool Websites on Wednesday 28 October 2009

Why don’t dogs like Halloween? This is the title of an article on the Urlesque website, which recently featured the craziest costumes of the canine world for Halloween night. Dogs with manes, a dog being bitten by a crocodile, the All-American football player, the giraffe, the tarantula, and the shrimp are just some of the pseudo-artistic expressions that these poor animals are subjected to.
