Icelandic singer-songwriter Hafdis Huld was formerly the frontwoman of electro-pop collective Gus Gus, before featuring as a vocalist on Tricky’s 2008 album Knowle West Boy, and, more recently, launching a solo career. We checked in with her and asked her to tell us about the eight songs that are getting most traction on her iPod at the moment. She began with the Dolly Parton song, Jolene [listen below]: ‘If I had to choose my all-time favorite song, I think it would be this one. It’s just one of those songs I wish I had written every time I hear it. I have many memories of singing along with it in the car in Reykjavik with my mum and my sister’. This beautiful necklace was handmade in Italy by Anna Lodi, who designed each original necklace from original Italian sheet music. She has adopted a paper-mache technique to create each bead, which is encapsulated by transparent glass-based resin.

Ten Masked Men are a British parody band that does death metal covers of famous pop songs by Ricky Martin, Christina Aguilera, Madonna, and many others. One of my favorites is their cover of Justin Timberlake’s ‘Cry Me a River’. It’s epic.
If you come to Berlin, then I recommend this little shop, Dederon Design, specializing in stuff manufactured in, or inspired by, the former GDR (East Germany). Everything from ice cream cups to LP racks and toys. The woman running the shop even designs bags in some weird GDR-invented plastic material.
San Francisco-based illustrator Luke Feldman has just had his first children’s book published, Chaff n’ Skaffs: Mai and the Lost Moskivvy, a collaboration with writer Amanda Chin. The book artfully tells the story of Mai, ‘a young girl who never ventured too far from her home. When a lost mosquito interrupts Mai’s sleep, her friend Chaff suggests they escort Moskivvy back home to a faraway land. So begins a courageous girl’s voyage into a fantastic world’, all communicated beautifully through Feldman’s colorful, dynamic and considered illustrations. Read more
Channeling Justin Timberlake and Alan Vega, or both or neither, Spanish Dancer is on his own axis, spinning to the BPM of a lost drum. At one point, between moving back and forth between Providence, Rhode Island and Miami, Florida, he discovered punk and his uncle bought him a ratty 50 dollar Cruise VMI guitar to mess around with. Subsequently, Spanish Dancer material is a little snarky, self-aware, and fun, while still retaining all the complex spastic freakout moments of his prior band, A Trillion Barnacle Lapse. His debut album, Burned Up, Bred High, is out now and we have the lead single, The Hustler [listen below], available for free download via the Music Download section of the Lost At E Minor site.

Italian brand Brionvega has resurrected the classy Radiofonografio piece first created in 1965. The updated version is just like the original turntable/radio unit, but also has a CD/DVD player.
