Luke Jerram makes exact glass replicas of harmful viruses and bacteria: SARS, HIV, E. Coli, and many more. Each replica is about 1,000,000 times the size of the actual virus/bacteria. Who would have though these nasty little organisms could look so beautiful?

Recently I got to check out Francesco Longenecker’s work at Rare Gallery. Longenecker paints quirky, colourful compositions that employ the use of hinterglasamaleri- a type of reverse glass painting. It’s interesting to see how Longenecker takes this method into such an expressive route. It makes for a strange optical phenomena dealing with space that gives the work a unique depth.
