‘Treelines and Shadows’, Gina Bruce‘s third solo exhibition, presents fresh images of the Australian landscape produced with an ancient method of painting, egg tempera. It is no surprise that Bruce knows well the places she based this work on, as the paintings exude warmth. Bruce is only 30 but has been a finalist in the prestigious Sulman Prize three years running. “Treelines and Shadows” runs from March 1-26 at the Robin Gibson Gallery in Sydney. I fell in love with Anthony Goicolea’s wonderful drawings and photographs a few years ago when I stumbled upon his show at Postmasters Gallery in New York. His world is both arousing and disturbing, as visions of childhood nostalgia and innocence intermingle with darker more abusive subject matter. Read more

We’re smitten (kitten) by the look of the new Standard Hotels’ Pendleton blankets, which were designed by the artists Geoff McFetridge and Chris Johanson. Composed of 82 per cent pure virgin wool and 18 per cent cotton, only 40 of each blanket design have been made. Read more

Lyon-based Babylon Circus is music laced with ska, gypsy, rock, vaudevillian antics, dancehall and reggae. Their first Australian East Coast tour in 2008 saw the nine piece band sell every show out. They feature on the So Frenchy So Chic compilation. We asked them to tell us about their favourite music right now, and they started with Django Reinhardt’s Minor Swing [listen below]: ‘Backstage, home, in the bus, cooking or having breakfast, is there a time you wouldn’t love to hear this one? We love it anytime, any style, too, as it’s been remixed and rearranged so many different ways. Still, we love the original best’.

Drawing upon both the traditional and the classically abstract ideals of tie design, the Sovereign Beck line of neckwear was created in limited quantity: bias cut and hand stitched in New York City. There are just 75 pieces per design.
