With the global economy in ruin and savings having dried up under the excitement of an endless credit tap, this Ikeman Piggy bank could well be the answer. Once you make a small deposit into it, the LCD screen allows you to choose between five virtual characters, who interact with you every time it gets a top up. Heck, deposit a decent amount and they’ll even offer you compliments. Forget the bailout of Wall Street. We urge the American government to buy one of these for every household instead.

The song here is a little too ‘ambient’ for me, but this ensemble of portable devices (including the Kaossilator Touchpad Synthesizer that we posted about way back when) is pretty impressive. I want to say something about monkeys and typewriters here, but I can’t think of anything except that monkeys murdered the mayor of Delhi in 2007. They’d probably make some pretty evil music with an iPhone and a stun gun.
Enda O’Donoghue comments on the hyper-mediated view of the world we have in the digital age, painting urban vistas and face-obscured portraits of people photographing themselves in mirrors, all of it blurred and glitchy with O’Donoghue’s perfectly rendered pixelation. Read more

If you’re in New Orleans and you love barbeque, make sure to stop by The Joint in the Bywater neighborhood. Their brisket is outstanding, and for under $11 for a pound of the fatty, delicious beef and two sides, it’s a super good deal. Their ribs are also pretty good, but seriously, the brisket is the jam.
Ok, so maybe it’s the extra-strong Brooklyn coffee I’m drinking or perhaps its that the pine coated goodness of Christmas is well and truly in the air, but I’m kinda excited this morning as my wife has just launched her website, Feature Shoot, which is a resource for photo editors, art directors, industry professionals, and pretty much anyone who appreciates good photography. It’s a great way to discover new photographic talent and the website is already bursting with interviews with up-and-coming American photographers alongside that of established photographers who have completed a project or whose work has taken on a new direction.
You may have already heard composer Nico Muhly this year on All Is Well, Samamidon’s lovely reimaginings of immigrant folk songs. (If you haven’t, you should). Mothertongue, Muhly’s second album and first for Brassland (run by members of the National), is divided into three acts. Read more

Pitched as ‘Ulterior Motives in Contemporary Art’, Disorder Disorder is running until November 14 at Penrith Regional Gallery. It’ll be well worth the trip out west of Sydney: the Australian, Japanese, American and European cast reads like a warriors of street art roundup and includes Mike Giant, Ed Templeton, Anthony Lister [artwork above], Ozzie Wright, and Jonathan Zawada. The return of the Brionvega rr226
Italian brand Brionvega has resurrected the classy Radiofonografio piece first created in 1965. The updated version is just like the original turntable/radio unit, but also has a CD/DVD player.
Okayboss is an illustrator based in sunny Sydney who combines the powers of PB&J sandwiches, cats on the Internet, and a pocketful of edible crayons into a rainbow Voltron drawingbot. His shirts are anything from abstract space particles, to hands with expressions, while his music-inspired art prints are playful, witty, and gorgeous.
