Howkapow is a new online design shop which supports emerging designers and illustrators. Everything is pretty lary and colourful, and it’s based in Bristol, not London, for once. It’s run by young husband and wife duo, Cat and Rog How, who have just started a new range of collaborations with young graduates.

New Zealand designer Maree Horner likes to drop old donkeys into children’s swimming pools to trigger her subconscious process. In Furniture of the World, a human belly appears from inside a bucket; others rest in a suitcase, a box or bin. Her images are like modern Rubik cubes of male and female genitalia.

The 800gr Bookshelf by French designer Dany Gilles is made from stackable cardboard cases. Not surprisingly, it’s very light and modular.

This Tree Coat Stand by Cyprus based design duo WeDid-ID is based on the concept of how people interact with their natural surroundings, such as hanging real clothes on a real tree.

This made-to-order ‘X’ bookshelf by Ais Design Studio can be wall mounted or rested on the floor. Designer Andreas Achniotis Perales often uses his trademark X in interior projects, either as a product or as an applied print.

This functional studio or conference table is designed by the Cyprus-based interior architect studio, Ais Design Studio. The table features retractable lights on a central doc, which closes when the lights are lowered. Half or all of the lights can be lowered at any time.

Marcos Chin and I share a studio and we are loving the Cubits and Cubitec shelving system from Design Within Reach, which we first saw at Mirko Ilic’s studio and then had to buy them ourselves. It’s smart, light and can be custom built to the shape you like. The vivid colours make our workspace a lot of fun!

Is it green? Is it funny? Is it Halloween? Or is it just a bad luck? I actually think they are super smart and stylish, and would not mind getting one of these beautiful couches next time I move to a new apartment. They are made of recycled (but unused) coffins, after all. Fantastic.

These bookcases from Lago don’t necessarily have to be assembled in this manner. They come as seven pieces in a square and can be rearranged to form whatever shapes your heart desires, just like the Tangrams played with as a child. I work from home, and as much as I like using the laptop on the sofa, my posture won’t be thanking me for it when I’m 70. If I had the finances and a place of my own I’d be furnishing it with products from French design duo, brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. They won New Designer Awards in the International Furniture Fair of New-York in 1999 as well as a gathering a huge list of other credits to their name. They’ve also designed a great looking studio chair called ‘worknest’ which I’m sure could encourage me to stay at my desk. Should I splash out? Maybe when I’m famous.
