Old gold! Lasagna Cat is one of those sites that never leaves you. I bookmarked this site and not just to my bookmarks folder, it went straight onto my bookmarks tool bar, along with my everyday bookmarks like, Internet banking, Email, Facebook and GOOP (that’s a joke). I don’t know what or why Lasagna Cat is, and in a lot of ways, that’s not important.

I was ready to hate on People of Da Hood for being another racist, classist meme blog making fun of poor people, but it’s actually mostly just pictures of weird-looking people doing weird things. Some of the images I don’t even really get, like the guy shoveling sand/salt onto icy roads out of the back of truck. Why is that funny? Am I missing something? Read more

The tagline on the This Is Indexed blog says that its little graphical representations of interesting or funny everyday correlations are published ‘weekday mornings as the coffee brews’. Really, the perfect time for a petit-four-sized bit of life analysis. Some days are better than others, but I’ve found myself going there often for a little something to start my day off with an interesting thought.

Our friends over at Crank Texts have done it again. The guys send out text messages ‘to total strangers’, then publish the confused, yet surprisingly engaged responses that come back. This one, in several parts (see below), charts a trip to, well, you know where. Read more

Oh, the joys at laughing at others’ misfortune! The premise behind Damn You Auto Correct is simple: ‘this site is dedicated to all the embarrassing, questionable, hilarious, and just plain WTF auto correct moments. If you’ve been screwed by predictive text, we want to know about it’. And so do we, based on the examples here. Read more

With the mid-term elections this week, the American people have spoken, loudly, and it wasn’t exactly music to the ears of the incumbent President. This website offers a rotating barrage of achievements that the Obama administration have actually rung in, but that have been lost amongst the fearmongering rhetoric of the Tea Party movement. All hail the magic 8-ball of cooking; the answer to those painful moments of indecision that plague every shopper at around 6pm on a hectic Monday evening. It’s not the nagging voice that questions every decision you make, but the blunt, obnoxious hollering of an online Gordon Ramsay. The kitchen abides.

A stupidly addictive site that tracks who’s doing the business in your area, I Just Made Love comes complete with positions, comments and a postcode search. Yes, this site takes voyeurism to the next level. After spotting quite a few pins floating in the ocean, I now have mental images of retirees on cruise ships that I could definitely have done without. Enjoy.

Some of these Free Crappy Portraits are not that crappy, and regardless of the skill of the artists, they’re all incredibly entertaining.

How many times can we play the same song in different settings? Hmmm, I don’t know. But it is a hell of a song, from a hell of a band, as that uniquely English oddity, Jules Holland would no doubt concur.

This striking design — still in the planning stages — aims to covert a desolate, disused sand mine into a thriving environmental preserve and eco-resort. The development lists an impressive array of green designs, including living walls and a five-acre green roof, and effortlessly succeeds in that all important eco-feature of blending in with its surrounding environment. Whoever said Goth is dead failed to inform these people. This blog is vivid proof that Goth is very much alive — I mean, undead — and kicking, in style. So if sinister sisters and brooding brothers tickle your fancy, cast a glance at this virtual necropolis. Don’t forget your parasol. I hear they’re praying for rain. Read more

I caught Austin band Watch Out For Rockets playing the other week at the Beauty Bar, a small smoky den on a bustling hipster strip. Although they hit the stage a few hours late, they still cranked out an awesome set of guitar-based power pop, though they left out my favorite track, Urgent Serpent Merchant (below).
