David Bazan’s Curse Your Branches is out today, the debut album from the former frontman of indie stalwarts Pedro The Lion. Branches is a lyrical goliath from one of Paste Magazine’s Top 100 living songwriters, tackling alcoholism, apostasy, and faith in the family. We have the first single off it, Bless This Mess [listen below], available for free download from the Music Download section of Lost At E Minor.

Langhorne Slim’s forthcoming release is called Be Set Free and will be out in late September. This track off it, I Love You, But Goodbye, is beautiful, cinematic and cohesive, with gut-wrenching lyrics and a simple but sweet melody. We have it available for free download via the Music Download section of Lost At E Minor.

I was nudged in the direction of this little gem of a website, especially for those partial to a bit of a knees-up, pipe on the porch every now and then. Read more
Cambridge artist Alan Warburton collaborated with a non-art audience to produce this series of work in which he asked volunteers to use fruit to explain politics: ‘In Caracas, Venezuela, volunteers explained the complex and lively political scene using melons, and in Cambridge, diverse residents used locally picked apples to explain the issues that affect the city’, he says of how the series unfolded. I almost forgot — metal is really about being drunk, pissed, offensive, and satanic. I have Bestial Mockery to thank for this. Their no-frills black thrash is barebones and snarling without being too dead-pan serious. These guys from Sweden are clearly having a blast worshiping the Dark One in the tradition of old-school bands like Venom, early Bathory, and Sodom. Nothing too original here, but it’s fun as hell.
If you’re all a Twitter and Tweeting is your thing, then you might like to follow the new Lost At E Minor feed, which is an extension of the things we post about here. We get access to a lot of tips and information that we don’t always post about. But we will Twitter it. Yup, Tweets are fun and brevity is our friend. So if you have a Twitter account and you want to follow us, we’d love to have you on-board.
The young architect Junya Ishigami is pushing the boundaries of the weightless aesthetic stream of architecture. Here, for the Kanagawa Institute of Technology, he has designed a glass and steel pavilion with a roof that floats on a sparse forest of thin steel columns or ‘flats’. Read more
Oh man! To be young enough to bop, groove and scratch like these kids. For Japanese superstars DJ Sara (8 years old) and DJ Ryusei (5 years old), there’s no such thing as tomorrow. Read more
The Hussy Summer 2009 Exotic Escape collection is up for viewing. I quite like the leather Zanzibar sandals for a stylish casual look that’s slightly sophisticated. While there are a few nice dresses in the new line, I much prefer the accessories and clutches. That’s partially why the rest of the globe has come to love this iconic Aussie label, right?
Sometimes tests are just too hard. Sometimes they’re just dumb. Funny Exam Answers collects all the funniest and most ridiculous results of students who may not have book smarts, but are quite clever and creative in other ways.

I live the upbeat, feel good tempo of the new single — A Hundred Hearts — from Philly group, The Swimmers. Off their latest album, People Are Soft, this song is a strangely fitting anthem for the blustery day outside.

Forget battery powered vehicles. Cars made from ice are the future of transportation: no pollution, no honking horns, no painful rap music blasting out of souped up stereos. And if they melt, they melt. You just swim the rest of the way down the slipstream.

With the recession still biting, it may be time to whip out the glue and the cardboard and make your next pair of cool kicks. Don’t know how they’d manage in the rain though? Read more
