Seminal indie rock band Polvo — who compiled a Secret Playlist for us a few months ago — have reformed, signed to Merge Records, and will release a new album titled In Prism on September 8. Having played South By South West over the past couple of years, Golden Bear have just released a souped up new EP, Everest, which sees the Texan rock band playing together like they would at a rehearsal or a show. Says frontman Chris Gregory: ‘I was a little anxious about being able to approximate the sound of our live show in the first place, but I figured to hell with it-let’s give it a shot. And I’m glad we did. There were no endless nights of playing the same song 150 times, no overscrutinaztion, and in all honesty, no hitches in the plan whatsoever. It was loose, rowdy, and rewarding, just like our shows’. I’m impressed with the wide range of David Ellis’ work. Beyond just differing mediums — installations, paintings, and sculptures — Ellis’ vast portfolio ranges between street art and graffiti to conceptual gallery work. His works on paper are particularly stunning.
Since 2009, Aggronautix has produced and distributed Throbbleheads: a punk rock version of the ever-popular bobblehead doll that runs rampant throughout modern American society. Three of the ten have sold out completely. Aggronautix also distributes specialty punk rock items and other punk rock paraphernalia. Fun.
‘Lost’ is the most recent film production in the urban art series produced by Tokyo-based art crew Rinpa Eshidan. Read more

I live the upbeat, feel good tempo of the new single — A Hundred Hearts — from Philly group, The Swimmers. Off their latest album, People Are Soft, this song is a strangely fitting anthem for the blustery day outside.

I am one of those typical New Yorkers who only wears black in winter. But this winter is different. With the economic crisis, and all the rest of the bad news, I have to fight the darkness in the world by wearing colors, and lots of them. Spanish designer Sybilla is known for her original designs and unique color schemes, but she is virtually unknown outside of her mother country and Japan, where she is super popular. Her younger brand Jocomomola is perfect for this gloomy winter. Read more
