The sunny days are back as Spring begins to taste like Summer in Barcelona. Time to get ready for the Summer festival season, starting with Primavera Sound, the leading event (along with the Sonar Festival). This year’s edition includes more than 70 bands featuring big names like The Cure, Franz Ferdinand, Wilco, Justice and The Rapture (Björk cancelled a few days ago) and a perfect selection of leading indie artists like Beach House, Atlas Sound, Beirut, Grimes, The Walkmen, The XX, M83 to name a few.
Hank Schmidt in der Beek is an old friend from Munich. He is one of the funniest and brilliant young artists I know. I love his stuff. He makes you laugh, and if you’re ever lucky enough to spend a night out with him, you’ll be strutting through the streets singing songs at the top of your voice you never thought you knew.
I came across this music on our last tour of South America. After finding out about Ajuvaska, potatoes, and getting a bottle of coca leaf filled pisco-schnapps from a local witch, we spent a whole day in Lima in a record shop that was stuffed with this stuff.
