As a component of Tiny Movements by Swedish conceptual artist Johanna Billing, the performance piece, You Don’t Love Me Yet, has been presented in over twenty countries since its conception in 2002. Scheduled for August 16, Billing has invited a diverse and exciting collection of Melbourne bands to reinterpret the ever-hopeful tearjerker which was originally recorded by Roky Erikson in 1984. Among those taking part in the event are Beaches, Henry Wagons, Super Wild Horses, Fabulous Diamonds, Tic Toc Tokyo, Francis Plagne, and Teeth and Tongue, each challenged with the task of making something familiar, unique. Not a lot of architecture firms think a lot about the demolition of old houses unless it’s as a means to make way for new buildings, but Hutchinson and Maul of Seattle drilled holes in condemned farmhouses, sometimes inserting tinted acrylic rods in them, creating beautiful displays of light as the sun streamed in and giving the structures a flourish of renewed life before their ultimate destruction. Says Van She bassist and vocalist Matt Van Schie about the Bush Tetras track — Too Many Creeps — from 1982: ‘I LOOOVE this tune. It opens with a perfect snare roll, and then the counter bass and guitar rhythms make it so cool. The lyrics are even more valid today. They’re one of my favourite bands of all time, and so many people try to do what they did for real. What a time! I wish I was born back then in New York, hanging out with these kids. Ahhhh!!’
I’ve always been a big fan of the Herakut duo and am loving their new murals in LA. I love the balance of softly rendered elements mixed with the quick harsh strokes and a touch of cleverness. Read more

No wave is alive and well, if Brooklyn duo Talk Normal are any indication. Drummer Andrya Ambro keeps things cohesive with surprisingly precise percussion, occasionally banging on such things as an electric guitar and an old iron pipe rigged with contact mics, while guitarist Sarah Register coaxes some unnerving and discordant noises from her axe and array of pedals. The two take turns shouting abstract and absurdist lyrics with voices like hi-tech valkyries from a futurist nightmare.
Wow, these rings by Yasushi Jona, intriguingly designed and rusted and corroded to look as if they were found on the sea floor, are really gorgeous. Read more
