Francesco D’Isa studied philosophy at Università degli Studi di Firenze and has a deep passion for porn, calling himself a ‘pornpope’ after, of course, ‘artist’ and ‘curator’ on his Facebook profile. When I came across his work, I thought it was a combination of Frida Kahlo and Gustav Klimt, if the two legends spent an afternoon together discussing life, politics, war, spirituality and the demise of the spirit. This entertaining documentary follows a group of seemingly clichéd American teenagers in their last year of high school. Through a comprehensive recording of their lives it reminds us that, when examining anything in detail, there is no such thing as a cliché. The naivety and hope of each student shines through, providing a memorable and accurate portrait of a middle-American high school. Read more
If Pharrell’s calling these guys ‘geniuses’, you’d better watch out! Chester French are Ivy League prep boys from Massachusetts who have mastered an interesting Beatlesque sound tinged with Motown influences. When, in May 2007, the duo — D.A. and Max — completed their recording and their degrees (in African American Studies and Social Anthropology respectively), they were snapped up by Pharrell Williams’ label Star Trak.
