French street artist C215 certainly knows how to colour coordinate. Whether he uses a rainbow palette or split complimentary hues in his pieces, he manages to combine the perfect colour harmonies to capture the essence of the moment in his intimate portraits.

From pensive clowns to brooding gents, and even french bulldogs that are just a little too-cute, his intricate multi-layered stencils inject refined beauty into concrete jungles across Europe.

I just returned from seeing Korkoro and I am a maelstrom of emotions. Its short, lush scenes tell a tense tale of gypsies in WWII France, but that narrative is drowned out by its intense cinematic poetry, with odes to running, joy, anxiety, nature, novelty, bewilderment, unfairness, kindness, and music that is in your bones as much as your ears. It is gorgeous.

Amose is a mixed media street artist from Lille, France. His urban characters are strongly influenced by early twentieth century aesthetics. He makes the kind of art that I would like to see painted on my walls at home.

1024 Architecture focuses on the interaction between body, space, sound, visual, low-tech and hi-tech, art and architecture. This piece was projected on the side of an old theater in Lyon, France, and the deformations were all controled by the audience, using an audio analysis algorithm.

Motoi Yamamato has again used salt to create a monumental floor painting, which he refers to as ‘his Labyrinth’. His latest piece, found in Toulouse’s Fondation Espace Ecureuil, is another feat of artistic labour: 50 hours of work over five days and 2,200 pounds of salt.
The work is an exercise in catharsis: in Japanese culture, salt is a symbol of purification and mourning, and he started sketching with salt to honour his sister’s passing from brain cancer. As with his previous showing in Cologne, when the exhibit closes, Yamamoto will invite patrons to dissemble the labyrinth and take the salt with them to scatter in the sea or soil — anywhere it might contribute to a new beginning.

Couture, extravagant, bucolic. Les buches de Noel are all dressed up for the holidays. ‘Tis the season for hard cider. So says Eric Asimov, and people tend to heed his recommendations. At least, I do. So while I scour my favorite haunts for the beautiful natural cider from Julien Frémont’s symbiotic Apple Orchard and Cattle Farm in Normandy, France (you must find this), I’m also looking for Lobo’s honest Cider rendition: cloudy and unfiltered from Adelaide Hills, Australian apples.

It’s the marrying of passion for craft and design that resonates within me – Lobo is made by a fifth generation apple grower and his recidivist cidermaker – with labels illustrated by Jason Holley for the edgy Mash Design studio. Lovely isn’t it?

If you’re like me, pretending you are someplace else is all part of the process of getting through the day. And today I’ve decided I want to be in France sipping coffee at a cute cafe, walking my adorable poodle, and ending the day by getting my photo taken with my mysterious French boyfriend. Well, thanks to La Photo Cabine, I can now pretend I’m in a French photo booth, when in reality I’m at the office on the computer, avoiding paperwork. Martin and Youle are British artists now based in Nantes, France. I got to know them through Hot Chip (Bevis is Felix Martin’s brother) and Charlie designed the cover for my first single (Nitemoves/Wallflowers). There’s a sense of play in their pieces, especially Pythagoras Table. I love the way they work with objects and expand on our assumed perceptions.

I don’t have any tattoos, and to be honest, I cannot imagine my life or my skin with one. Maybe that’s all the more reason I find them alluring, enchanting, and so brilliantly self-expressive. Well, except for the dork in high school who thought it would be cool to put the Coor’s Beer logo on his shoulder. Anyway, Sang Bleu, a London-based publication is tipping their hat to modern urban society by fullfilling a wider range of culture and style and mixing the world of tattoos and its sub-tribes to sit next to Art, Fashion, Sociology and Literature in the grand show we call Modern Culture. Come to think of it, didn’t Louis Vuitton just get inked, too?

The heavily political, provocative, and pornographic themes and images in French artist Maldo Nollimerg’s collages remind me of awesome punk album covers from the early 80s, but with a slightly more baroque quality to them.
