A man after my own heart, artist Thomas C. Chung’s work — knitted sculptures, installations, and 2D images — revolve around food. Mainly sweets and junk food, but food nonetheless.

Broccoli trees, bread-loaf mountains, salad bushes and onion sacks? It sounds like a dish on a menu in a first class restaurant but it apparently is what Carl Warner turns into in his surreal foodscape photo series. Hmm, how come I’m hungry all of a sudden?

Artist Liz Hickok has created stunning representations of San Francisco entirely out of Jello-O. ‘I make the landscapes by constructing scale models of the architectural elements which I use to make molds’, she says. ‘I then cast the buildings in Jell-O. Similar to making a movie set, I add backdrops, which I often paint, and elements such as mountains or trees, and then I dramatically light the scenes from the back or underneath. The Jell-O sculptures quickly decay, leaving the photographs and video as the remains’.

Cambridge artist Alan Warburton collaborated with a non-art audience to produce this series of work in which he asked volunteers to use fruit to explain politics: ‘In Caracas, Venezuela, volunteers explained the complex and lively political scene using melons, and in Cambridge, diverse residents used locally picked apples to explain the issues that affect the city’, he says of how the series unfolded.
