In this recent work, artist Tattfoo Tan explores ideas of food and play, replacing plastic checker and chess sets with edible cookies in flavors like cream filled ginger, citrus shortbread, and oatmeal and raisin (recipes are up on his site). All pieces were handmade by Tattfoo using custom-made cookie cutters. Each time a player takes an opponent’s piece, it can be eaten. Yum! And if you just can’t have a cookie without some ice cold milk, you’re in luck. Glasses of the good stuff accompany each side of the silkscreened checkerboard pattern. Food Game has been on in various New York City-area venues over the last month.

Riffing on the idea that ‘eating was tending toward breathing’, Harvard professor David Edwards, in conjunction with design studio Le Laboratoire, has created Le Whif, the breathable chocolate. No chewing, no calories, and it comes in mint, rasberry, mango, and plain chocolate flavors. The product may just be a fancy scratch-and-sniff sticker, but it looks so sleek and design-y.

Mexican architecture firm Senosiain Arquitectos recently designed a shell-shaped dwelling for a Mexico City couple. The owners are already living in their new abode with their two very happy children. The structure is maintenance-free and earthquake proof, and is full of soothing greenery and smooth, rounded surfaces. Read more

Setting Sun’s cover of Tom Petty’s You Got Lucky was recently released as part of Buffet Libre DJ’s compilation CD, Rewind 2. Says frontman, Gary Levitt, of their version on the song: ‘We got back from our European tour on Christmas Eve with a December 27th deadline for the track looming. It was finally started on December 26th and then sent off completed the next day. It was a great exercise in having to let some things go. That’s twenty-four hours out the door complete, old school style. That’s how records used to be made. Says site founder Justin Greenwood: ‘As well as stocking some of the more well known brands, we also import a lot of labels exclusively from America, and produce a small range of our own clothing.
