With spring fully arrived, it’s brought with it the return of the Brooklyn Flea, a mecca for crafts, vintage and food. Having gone out of my way to attend the Fort Greene flea almost every Saturday since it began almost a month ago — to stuff my face with the myriad gastronomical indulgences available and peruse the amazing wares set out on folding tables throughout the courtyard of Bishop Loughlin Memorial High — I only wish that I had a larger belly and more disposable income. They say you can’t reinvent the wheel, but designer Ron Arad has done just that with his Two Nuns Bicycle. Rather than the traditional spokes and tires, this bike moves along on mandalas of bolted steel.

Says Van She bassist and vocalist Matt Van Schie about the Bush Tetras track — Too Many Creeps — from 1982: ‘I LOOOVE this tune. It opens with a perfect snare roll, and then the counter bass and guitar rhythms make it so cool. The lyrics are even more valid today. They’re one of my favourite bands of all time, and so many people try to do what they did for real. What a time! I wish I was born back then in New York, hanging out with these kids. Ahhhh!!’

Grace is part of a new series of books by author Dale Cusack. The story chronicles the lives of Grace and her feline companion Boot in their struggle to fight the evil Drawl and the cover illustration was done by Auckland-based artist, and Lost At E Minor contributor, Dennis Juan Ma. We asked him about what shaped the colour choices for the piece: ‘I wanted to create a mystery world within the reality. I wanted the colour to encourage readers to stimulate their imagination. I illustrated the covers with a classical Japanese wood block look to show the oriental flavour of the cat’s world. And it just happens that I’m a wood block art fan’. Read more
Despite their jarring name, British noise duo Fuck Buttons are surprisingly palatable. The band’s long, droning tracks are infused with sweet twinkles and sunny synth, but dark shards of ominous guitar overdrive and distorted screeches pierce the shimmering surface just when you’re ready to zone out. Danceable beats occasionally draw everything back together, creating a stormy, pulsing, and disorienting atmosphere.
I love the new range of plaid collared shirts from the aptly named Just Another Cheap Shirt,. When I walked into their showroom in Manhattan a few weeks back, my eyes nearly popped out of head at the sight of so many colours across so many shirts across so much space. It’s a vibrant, resilient, and timeless collection — edgy street wear meets classic European sophistication. Read more

The problem with awesome things like these pencils made out of recycled newspaper is that you almost don’t want to use them.
The Illuminated Sea Cookie Pin by Stephanie Simek mixes underwater wonders and light to add a little sparkle to your wardrobe. The sea cookie, a member of the sand dollar family, is back lit by a white LED. When turned on, the light illuminates all of the creature’s natural patterns and intricacies. Read more
