Piven’s workshop will focus on the idea of playing intuitively with objects, maximizing trial-and-error and taking advantage of serendipity, which are all very useful tools to explore any creative medium. Piven is known for using ordinary objects to create striking celebrity portraits for such clients as Time, Rolling Stone, The New Yorker, The New York Times and Random House. The workshop takes place on Tuesday, November 10, between 6:30 &#8211; 8:30pm, and will be produced by Fernanda Cohen.</p>

The Brooklyn-based illustrator — and sometime <a href="/author/fernanda-cohen/" title="fernanda cohen">Lost At E Minor contributor</a> — has just completed a new series called War of Words which has received two silver medals from the Society of Illustrators of NY and LA, and will be featured in HOW International Design in March. <span id="more-5421"></span>Of the series, Cohen says: &#8216;War of Words focuses on the dynamic behind ten different universal arguments: politics, love, childhood, sports, customer service, religion, family, protests, friendship and self, because in the history of human communication and interaction, we&#8217;ve always argued over the same things, in a wide range of different cultures and languages&#8217;. <!--more--></p>
